TORONTO, ON – 3 Luglio, 2012 - - L'edizione inaugurale del Festival del Cinema Italiano Contemporaneo, presentato dall' IC Savings, si è conclusa domenica scorsa con l'annuncio dei premi ICFF. I sei giorni del festival, che ha avuto inizio il 26 giugno, ha presentato un'entusiasmante serie di 16 anteprime cinematografiche, che rappresentano il meglio nel nuovo cinema italiano.La prima edizione del festival è stata un grande successo, con vendite di biglietti superiore al 90% nelle sue tre sedi: TIFF Bell Lightbox, il The Royal Cinema e l'AMC Intercange di Vaughan. Il festival ha attirato centinaia di presenze alla sua apertura e allaserata di Gala conclusiva, quest'ultimo tenuto nel giardino del Consolato Italiano, che è stato decorato con riproduzioni scenografiche del film di Woody Allen a "TO ROME WITH LOVE" evocando una serie di visioni dalla Città Eterna, tra cui un scintillante fontana romana.


"Siamo molto soddisfatti di quanto abbiamo ottenuto nel primo anno del festival", ha detto Festival co-fondatore e direttore artistico, Cristiano de Florentiis. "La risposta del pubblico alla diversità dei generi cinematografici e talenti del cinema regionale italiano è stato estremamente positivo. Siamo sicuri che abbiamo costruito una solida e prospera base per la crescita futura del festival". Maurizio Magnifico, co-fondatore del festival, ha ringraziato i sostenitori del Festival, così comei laboriosi volontari. "Vorremmo ringraziare il team del festival, i nostri sponsor, e tutti i laboriosi volontari che sono stati parte integrante nel rendere il nostro primo festival un grande successo."


Il Festival del Cinema Italiano Contemporaneo ha presentato tre premi:


Il Premio Angela Baldassarre per il miglior film, istituito in onore della critica cinematografica di Toronto e recentemente scomparsa, è stato assegnato a Emanuele Crialese per "TERRAFERMA", da parte di membri del Toronto Film Critics Association. La giuria ha dichiarato: "Dopo tanto deliberare, abbiamo trovato TERRAFERMA uno splendido film e Crialese degno destinatario di questo premio. Erano tutti vicini, molto vicini, ma in questo film c'è qualcosa di così maestoso, lirica e animato, che si riproponeva sempre... . Si tratta di un lavoro di puro cinema, mescolando risposte basilari e complesse nel suo pubblico. Un film che esige di essere discusso, come Angela, senza dubbio, avrebbe fatto con entusiasmo, passione e convinzione .... ". Menzione d'onore per "To Rome With Love", scritto e diretto da Woody Allen. La giuria era composta dai giornalisti Chris Alexander, Karen Gordon e Thom Ernst.


Il premio della Giuria popolare, votato dal pubblico del festival, è andato a Ivan Cotroneo con "LA KRYPTONITE NELLA BORSA" (Kryptonite!), che ha avuto la sua anteprima nordamericana al festival. L'attrice Monica Nappo era presente a ricevere il premio.Il film "TERRAFERMA" ha ricevuto una menzione d'onore da parte della giuria popolare.


Il Premio IC Savings per il miglior contributo ai valori sociali e culturali degli italiani è stato presentato a Rocco Mortelliti, regista e sceneggiatore del film "La Scomparsa di Pato" (The Vanishing di Pato), che ha ritirato il premio di persona.


"Siamo onorati di dare questo premio a "La scomparsa di Pato", ha detto Fausto Gaudio, Presidente e CEO dell' IC Savings and Credit Union. "La nostra partnership con il Festival del Cinema Italiano Contemporaneo rappresenta il nostro forte impegno a promuovere valori sociali e culturali della comunità che serviamo nella nostra grande città di Toronto". Fondata nel 2012, il Festival del Cinema Italiano Contemporaneo è una organizzazione culturale non-profit che fornisce una vetrina sul meglio del nuovo cinema italiano. Ogni anno il festival presenta film italiani, internazionali, nazionali e locali per celebrare la diversità della cultura italiana.

THE INAUGURAL ITALIAN CONTEMPORARY FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES WINNERS TERRAFERMA AND KRYPTONITE TAKE TOP AWARDS

TORONTO, ON – July 3, 2012 - - The inaugural edition of the Italian Contemporary Film Festival, presented by IC Savings, concluded on Sunday with the announcement of the ICFF Awards. The six-day festival, which began June 26, featured an exciting lineup of 16 film premieres representing the best in new Italian cinema.

The first edition of the festival was a major success, with ticket sales exceeding 90% at its three venues: the TIFF Bell Lightbox, the Royal Cinema and the AMC Interchange in Vaughan. The festival also attracted hundreds to its opening and closing night Galas, the latter held on the grounds of the Italian Consulate, which was decorated in honour of Woody Allen’s film TO ROME WITH LOVE conjuring up a variety of visions from the Eternal City, including a glittering Roman fountain.

“We are very happy with what we have achieved in the first year of the festival,” said Festival co-founder and Artistic Director, Cristiano de Florentiis. “Audience response to the diversity of film genres and regional Italian filmmaking talent has been exceedingly positive. We are confident that we have built a solid foundation for the festival’s future growth and prosperity.”

Festival co-founder Maurizio Magnifico expressed thanks to the Festival backers, as well as its industrious rank and file. “We would like to thank the Festival team, our sponsors, and all the hard-working volunteers who were integral to making our first festival a great success.”

The Italian Contemporary Film Festival presented three awards:

The Angela Baldassare Award for Best Film, established in honour of the late Toronto film critic, was awarded to Emanuele Crialese’s TERRAFERMA by members of the Toronto Film Critics Association. Jury Statement: "After much deliberating, we the jury found Crialese's stunning TERRAFERMA to be the worthiest recipient of this award. It was close. VERY close. But there is something so majestic, lyrical and soulful about TERRAFERMA, that we kept returning to it. It is a work of pure cinema, stirring responses both primal and cerebral in its audience. A film that demands to be discussed as Angela no doubt would have done, with enthusiasm, passion and conviction....”

Honourable mention: TO ROME WITH LOVE, written and directed by Woody Allen.

The TFCA jury was comprised of journalists Chris Alexander, Karen Gordon and Thom Ernst.

The People’s Choice Award, voted by festival audiences, went to Ivan Cotroneo’s LA KRYPTONITE NELLA BORSA (Kryptonite!), which had its North American premiere at the festival. Actress Monica Nappo was present to accept the award.

The People’s Choice Award, Honourable Mention went to TERRAFERMA.

The IC Savings Award for best contribution to Italian social and cultural values was presented to LA SCOMPARSA DI PATÓ (The Vanishing of Pató) and to its director and screenwriter, Rocco Mortelliti, who accepted the award in person.

"We are honoured to recognize LA SCOMPARSA DI PATÓ with this award,” said Fausto Gaudio, President and CEO of the Italian Canadian Savings & Credit Union. “Our partnership with the Italian Contemporary Film Festival represents our strong commitment to promoting the social and cultural values of the community we serve in our great city of Toronto."

Founded in 2012, the Italian Contemporary Film Festival is a non-profit cultural organization which provides a showcase for the best in new Italian cinema. Each year the festival will present international, national and local Italian films to celebrate the diversity of Italian culture.
